In 2025, I started Rustic Twist By Jess with a simple idea: create handmade pieces that brought warmth, function, and a little bit of joy into everyday life. Inspired by slow living, cozy homes, and the beauty of handmade craftsmanship, I began making items for my own home first. I wanted products that were durable enough to withstand real life while still being beautiful enough to display every day.
My love for sewing actually began long before my business. I learned to sew from both of my grandmothers when I was young. As life became busier, my sewing machine sat untouched for years. It wasn't until I wanted to make things for my children that I picked it back up. At first, I only sewed small projects for special occasions—school awards, Halloween costumes, doll clothes, and little gifts. During that time, I realized how much I had missed creating with my hands and wanted to grow my skills. Soon I was sewing curtains, throw pillows, oven mitts, and other handmade pieces for my own home. Before long, Rustic Twist By Jess was born.
As the business grew, so did my vision. That's when Rustic Twist By Jess became Cluck & Stitches. The name change happened for two very special reasons.
The first is Cluck. I wanted my business to become more than just an online shop. Through my blog, I hope to invite you behind the scenes of our small business and share more of everyday life—from handmade projects and market adventures to favorite recipes, simple living, and the moments that inspire creativity. "Cluck" reflects our love of chickens and adds a little personality to everything we do.
The second is Stitches. While "By Jess" represented a business that was created and run by just me, Cluck & Stitches represents something much bigger—our family. My seven-year-old son has already started joining me at markets, and is now proudly selling some of his own handmade creations. Watching him discover the joy of creating has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey. I chose a name that leaves room for all three of my children to be part of the business if they choose, whether that's helping at markets, creating their own products, or sharing new ideas as they grow. Cluck & Stitches isn't just my story anymore—it's becoming our family's story.
